Jeremy Sorci appointed as part owner of Premier

Premier Financial Group, an investment advisory firm based in Humboldt County, announced the appointment of Jeremy Sorci as the firm’s newest shareholder.

Sorci joined Premier in 2012 as Premier’s focus on fiduciary responsibility aligns with his personal commitment to putting the needs of his clients above those of the company. As an individual, family, estate, foundation and retirement planning advisor, he is responsible for many of Premier’s top clients.

“Independently owned small businesses have always been an important part of Humboldt County’s economic base,” he said in a prepared statement. “I’m proud to be a part of it now and excited about the new challenges that business ownership will bring.”

Partnership Recognized Rosewood Memorial

Providence Redwood Memorial Hospital announced this week that it was recently recognized by the Partnership Health Plan’s Hospital Quality Improvement Program (Hospital QIP) as one of nine hospitals that received an approval rating of at least 90 percent or above. Redwood Memorial Hospital achieved 100 percent on all 14 measures.

The goal of the Hospital QIP is to improve the quality of care provided to PHP members. PHP provides quality health care to more than 660,000 Medi-Cal recipients in 14 Northern California counties, including Humboldt County.

“The partnership is proud to recognize the exemplary performance of these hospitals and their highest quality scores in multiple areas,” CEO Elizabeth Giboney said in a prepared statement. “We acknowledge the challenges these hospitals have faced in recent years and offer well-deserved commendation for their ability to uphold standards of excellence in delivering first-class care to our communities.”

Open Door Clinics, Top 5 Addresses ACE

Open Door Community Health Centers, the first 5 community health centers in Humboldt and Del Norte counties, and the California Partnership HealthPlan will receive a grant to address adverse childhood experiences and toxic stress in our communities. The PRACTICE Grant (Preventing and Responding to ACE-Related Health Conditions and Toxic Stress in Clinics through Community Engagement) helps community organizing partners identify gaps and create greater access to care and services for vulnerable children.

ACEs, which can occur in the family, community, or environment, are stressful or traumatic experiences in childhood that increase the risk of serious physical and mental health conditions later in life. Addressing ACEs early can reduce their effects and significantly improve the chances of a healthy life. This grant is intended to help communities create buffer zones to protect children and reduce the impact of ACE.

“First 5 is delighted to partner with Open Door to support children and families experiencing ACE,” said Mary Ann Hansen, executive director of First 5 Humboldt, in a news release. “Connecting families with resources to reduce toxic stress can lead to lifelong positive health outcomes. The strength of our communities is tied to the health of our youngest residents, and working together, we can create a healthier, stronger community.”

Sequoia has a new name: Cardinal Services

On Thursday, the Eureka Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to announce that Sequoia Personnel Services has a new name — Cardinal Services.

Sequoia Personnel Services is one of the oldest employment services companies in Humboldt County. The company was founded in 1980 by Liana and Bud Simpson.

In 2016, after 36 years, Liana Simpson sold the company to Cardinal Services, a family-owned Oregon employment services company with roots in Humboldt County. Cardinal, Bud, and Gail Freeman, the husband-and-wife founder, were Eureka High School’s Class of 1956.

Cardinal’s newly appointed Director of Human Resources, Tomas Chavez, is excited about the transition.

“The combination of SPS and Cardinal gives clients access to broader expertise and a wider selection of affordable, custom workplace solutions,” he said in a news release. “While our name has changed, Cardinal represents the same commitment to providing our local customers with the same exceptional customer service they have come to expect from Sequoia Bank.”
